AKC CAR Donates $10,000 to Support K9 Search and Rescue of Orange City (FL)

Raleigh, NC (January 25, 2009) – AKC Companion Animal Recovery recently awarded an AKC CAR Canine Support and Relief Fund grant to K9 Search and Rescue of Orange City, Florida. This organization was formed to assist law enforcement and fire/rescue emergency agencies in search and rescue operations locating lost or missing persons. K9 SAR of Orange County serves the Southeastern states. When not in the field, this team promotes the public awareness of the usefulness of trained canines in search and rescue.

The $10,000 grant will allow K9 Search and Rescue of Orange City to continue training, maintain their national certifications and will provide funds for a K9 GPS unit. The grant will also cover other necessary search expenses since this organization offers its services free of charge. In 2008, this team was involved in twelve searches and certified/recertified eight canines.

“The grant will allow this team to continue training their dogs and serving the Southeastern states of the U.S.” said Tom Sharp, Vice President and CEO of AKC CAR. “Besides providing search and rescue services, the members of this team are good stewards of responsible pet ownership in the community. They promote the benefits of the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program as well as provide testing.”
